Education Article: Colostrum & PRPs

Should Bovine Colostrum Proline-Rich Polypeptides Be Your New Best Friend?

cows make colostrum during the first 16 hours after giving birth to a calfI would like to introduce you to my new best friend, Proline-Rich Polypeptides.  You can call him PRP for short!  This amazing leap in science is something that had to be written about right away for SupplementRelief.com.  While we’ve been carrying this product for quite some time, and I was in fact using it daily, I had no idea it’s power and scope of use!

I spent last weekend at a conference educating medical professionals on this amazing product.  I must admit, when the main speaker opened by explaining all of the different ways that the product could help people, my mind flashed to one of my favorite movies, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.  If you’ve seen it, you know that the bride’s father claims that any health issue could be cured by Windex.  When our researcher started passing the PRP Spray bottle around, I had a good internal giggle.

His presentation was so compelling and he was so passionate about his topic I soon realized that this was no laughing matter.  His groundbreaking research and methodology seem irrefutable.  I will attempt, as I always do in these articles, to translate from the Obscure Medical Language into common English for you, my faithful readers.

Top Three Questions
Regarding Colostrum and Proline-Rich Polypeptides

First of all, what is Colostrum and PRPs?

PRPs are found in Colostrum of all Mammals.  Colostrum is the Pre-Milk that is secreted in the first two milkings for cows, and then it gradually changes over to the regular milk you can buy at the corner store.  All baby mammals have a “blank slate” of immunity when they are born.  Colostrum is used as their defense against harmful and even fatal infections that can set in before their immune system is fully functioning.  It also contains growth factors that help develop the gut, which is where over 80% of a person’s immune system is seated

Second, how does Colostrum help people other than newborns?

Many adults were not ever breastfed as infants.  This put their immune system at a distinct disadvantage.  Colostrum can be used and benefited from at any age or stage of life, whether you were breastfed or not as an infant.  Bovine Colostrum has over 40 times the amount of immune growth factors in it than it’s human counterpart.  The PRPs found in this product can help you as you consume offending foods and live in a polluted world.  (Think MSG, Arsenic in Rice, GMOs, Fluoride, and the like.)  We are also constantly exposed to bacteria and viruses, and PRPs can boost the immune system to help ward off disease.  The Polypeptides work to heal the gut as well as working to fix the innate immune system. (Instead of reaching for the Vitamin C like we all did in the 80s, maybe we should reach for PRPs?)

Third, are there specific conditions Colostrum works with?

I’m glad you asked!  There are over 2000 studies that prove that Bovine PRPs are helpful to humans.  “PRPs modulate the cytokine system to stimulate an under active immune system, and tone down an overactive one...” Here’s the list of the research studies of specific conditions that could be helped by modulating the cytokine system:

  • Allergies
  • Chronic Sinusitus
  • Atopic eczema
  • Asthma
  • Systematic Autoimmune conditions (Think Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis)
  • Certain Cases of Autism
  • Hyperinsulinism (Pre-Diabetes)
  • Malaria
  • Hepatitis C
  • Viral Infections
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Wound Healing
  • Digestive Issues
  • Anti-aging
  • Anti-Fungal
  • Stamina
  • Skin Elasticity
  • Bone Density
  • Weight Loss
  • Sports Performance
  • Athletic Recovery Time
  • Diabetes Type 1
  • Chrone’s Disease
  • Psoriasis
  • Sarcoidisis
I know what you’re asking now, “Where can I get a Mama Cow?”  Well, before you become a milk maid, let me tell you that he and team have a great process that they have patented to get the best PRPs for you without having to do the milking yourself!

So How Do You Use PRPs and Which Supplements Should I Get?

I’m glad you asked!  There are three basic forms that NuMedica has produced for PRP consumption and they are used for different purposes:

colostrum prp powder should be used everyday by everyone in the familyImmuno-G PRP Powder -  this formulation is used to heal the gut.  It can be put in smoothies, juice, etc... and is used as a powerful way to heal the gut and immune system.  In essence, the gut is a barrier to disease and infection when we eat offending foods, are exposed to pollutants, or have unbalanced gut flora (antibiotics are a classic culprit of this problem) our immune system can suffer.  This powder delivers powerful PRPs and Growth Hormones which help the body to repair itself.

immunog liquid prp spray is the purest form of prpsImmuno-G PRP Liquid Spray -  this is PRP in it’s most pure and potent form.  It uses all of the basic ingredients of the colostrum and just removes the unnecessary elements.  It’s main use is to establish (in infants and small children) or heal the innate immune system.   It is absorbed sublingually and activates the thymus gland among other things.  Practically speaking, it has a pleasant vanilla flavor, and while I’m not a big milk fan, it tasted pretty good- especially when chilled.  You should hold it in your mouth for at least 30 seconds before swallowing for best results.

immunog prp colostrum chewables are great for on-the-goImmuno-G PRP Chewables - this is the most convenient form of the PRP line.  It’s what I throw in my purse when I have to fly or have a busy week.  The theory is that because you chew it, it stays in your mouth for a while and activates the thymus gland, and also works to restore the gut.

Which is right for you?  I asked him what he would recommend, and he stated that all are good products, but he would recommend using both the spray (for immune system building) and the powder (for gut restoration) daily.

He also commented on lactose intolerance and dairy allergy.  He gave a very nice, very scientific answer, but simply put, if you take this product that contains the PRRs your body should not react in a negative way to the products because the PRPs are telling your body that the product is safe.  He did say that about 1 in 20 people with intolerance/allergy have a negative response, but that doesn’t mean they can’t take it.  He said it just means that your body is detoxing, so he recommends that you start with a very low dose, and be sure to drink lots of water. I recommend you speak with your healthcare provider if you are at all nervous about this issue.

There were only a few people that are not recommended to consume this product:
  • Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.
  • People who are on anti-rejection medications from organ transplants.

A Few Words About
The Importance of Local Production for Quality Colostrum

His team is the largest colostrum producer in the world.  They collect colostrum every day of the year to ensure the freshest product. They gather the raw colostrum from dairy farms in the southwest United States.  It is chilled on the farm to 4-7 degrees Celsius, then shipped to his facility.  There, a patented Flash Pasteurization occurs for 15 seconds (this does not damage the PRPs in any way), and then it is filtered in a sterile environment. Next, they use indirect steam to spray dry the colostrum before powdered packaging occurs.  This is the only company in the world to use this technology to keep pollutants out.

To add to this great production, his team developed a patented process to maintain the PRP count.  For the liquid spray version, he uses an ion exchange filtration system to help the product enter the bloodstream more quickly.  He takes only the large unnecessary particles out, and leaves the  liquid otherwise alone.

The farms where colostrum is purchased from are all USDA Grade A (which rates sanitation practices).  Cows feed on local grasses and are not given any kind of growth hormones or rBSTs.  It is also free of all antibiotics.  This is the only company to use ONLY the milk collected within the first 16 hours after birth which has the greatest content of PRPs and Growth Factors.  What does all this mean to you the consumer?  Simply this:  The Best Raw Materials are used to make this product!

On a side note, you may have heard that New Zeeland is the best place for “Organic” milk materials, but the inventor of the product line, being a dairy farmer from New Zeeland originally assured his audience that milk from the United States is of a much superior quality, and that each batch is meticulously tested for any toxins or pollutants.  He also informed us that buying local makes sense for a totally different reason- allergy immunity! Just as many natural physicians prescribe local honey for allergy relief (bees produce from local pollens and therefore help to build immunity) so it is with cows from the USA versus another far away place.

Final Thoughts on Colostrum and PRPs

This is a powerful amazing product, and my family will be taking it with new vigor after this exciting educational seminar.  We will especially be using it during the coming cold/flu season along with our Micellized Vitamin D3.  I will leave you with one of the most compelling studies I ever read on the flu from San Valentino Epidiemiology.  It highlighted the number of flu cases over a 3 month period:
  • 178 people with no treatment contracted flu
  • 163 people who were vaccinated contracted flu
  • 40 people with vaccine and colostrum contracted flu
  • 41 people with colostrum only contracted flu.
What does this mean?  “Colostrum is at least 3 times more effective than vaccination in preventing flu.”
