Common Child Health Issues

There are many common child health issues that your child will likely face at some point during their childhood. These include but aren't limited to:

• Allergies
• Asthma
• Colds, coughs, flu, and temperatures
• Chickenpox
• Rashes and skin irritation 
• Constipation/diarrhea and digestive problems
• Warts and verrucas
• Lice or worms

Most of these issues can be treated with over-the-counter medication. You won't even need a prescription to pick up these medications.

If you are concerned your child's issue is more chronic, you should always consult your GP.

How Can I Look After My Children's Health?

Kids are forever falling over, bumping into things, and causing chaos. Most of the time, it's harmless, but sometimes it can be more serious. Make sure you always have antiseptic and band-aids to hand to deal with cuts and bruises.

Have some basic medications for minor afflictions stored in your bathroom cabinet, so you always have them to hand should you need them.

Keep sunscreen to hand too. SPF is always important, and kids should wear it every day.

Healthy Habits For Kids

To keep children healthy, you should make sure they are eating a healthy, balanced diet.

This includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, grains, proteins, and drinking lots of water. Even though it's hard, avoid giving them too many sweets or fried foods.

If you can get your kids into the habit of eating well, they'll thank you for a lifetime!

Other healthy habits you can teach them include exercising regularly and limiting screen time.

The government recommends that children exercise for 60 minutes every day.

Many of the common infections amongst children occur because of poor hygiene. Teach them how to thoroughly wash their hands after going to the toilet, touching animals, and before preparing or eating food.

What About Supplements?

Although most of the nutrients your children need to stay healthy should come from their food, a supplement is a great way to get them some extra nutrients.

A multi-vitamin is a great way to make sure your kid is getting a variety of nutrients. These multi-vitamins usually include the vitamins that kids are sometimes deficient in, such as Vitamin D or B.

Some kids may also be deficient in iron, so they may require a supplement. If you aren't sure about your child's vitamin and mineral levels, you can consult your doctor. They will be able to run a health check.
